The Stanford family connects to ours
through the Boatwright/Waterson side of the family. Matilda Elizabeth
Stanford got
together around the late 1870’s with Thomas Waterson who called
himeslf Thomas Boatwright. Matilda was born in 1844 in Great
Yarmouth, to Mother Matilda Dye and Luke Stanford who was a seaman.
Matilda Elizabeth had at least one brother that I know of, Thomas born
in 1835. On the 1851 census the family are shown at Row 22, Great
Yarmouth. Father is not there presumed to be away at sea as mum Matilda
is not shown as widowed.
Between 1860 and 1864 Matilda Elizabeth married Alfred James
Boatwright. They had a son in 1864 also called Alfred James, and
further children James, Matilda and Alice, 1866, 1871 and 1874
respectively. All the children are born in Poplar, East Ham.
By the 1881 census Matilda is shown as widowed and living at 6 Susannah Street, East London, with her 4 children and her mother.
All of the other information for Matilda is captured under the Boatwright section.
